ABOUT US

History

Since Brenda and George van der Merwe took over the thriving business in November 2016 they have worked hard to maintain the quality standards and make numerous physical improvements to the property, with the comfort of the guests in mind.

We immediately set about developing a third self-catering unit (Titanic View) to provide more guests an opportunity to experience the view, our wonderful location and the meticulous attention to detail that has been the Fairview hallmark. For this reason, Titanic View has been designed to be wheelchair-friendly, too.

New mattresses have been fitted to all the units, new linen acquired and new drapes installed. DSTV has been added to each unit, while the DVD selection has been steadily increased. A variety of books are made available to guests, as well as additional services to meet their needs. 

The garden outside Garden View has been enlarged to facilitate relaxation and enjoyment. Several art pieces have been added and the braai area has been enlarged. The main garden is currently being upgraded by a specialist.

We value every guest.

We believe that our guests should not overpay for a great stay. Our aim is to provide value for money, friendly service and accurate information to ensure our guests enjoy their stay.

We deliver additional services (wine, flowers, chocolates, etc) for special celebrations/occasions and attend to requests for personal assistance for guests with physical challenges. Where possible, we serve our guests in their home language.

We provide an honest, professional service and take pride in our staff, our product and town. We support every effort to build bridges, create a rainbow and promote a society based on love, respect and principled endeavour. 

We appreciate our environment and are committed to save water, recycle plastic, paper and glass, while also minimising energy wastage. 

Our business

We focus on couples who want a self-catering home-from-home and honeymoon couples who want a relaxing environment in which they can celebrate their bond and enjoy it. 

We offer a non-intrusive approach, mindful that our product is self-catering accommodation. We don't service the units daily, but we do clean the braais, remove trash (if required) and assist as and when needed. Towels are replaced every third day.

Our knowledge of the town and its immediate surroundings, as well as our experience on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project enables us to offer advice and - when requested - guided tours.

As a registered marriage officer, George also conducts weddings, while Brenda shoots candid photographs. We specialise in low-budget outdoor weddings, if you want to Elope2Clarens.

Our advantage

Fairview has the right location. 40 paces from our gate is the lovely meander along the stream that goes all the way into the Conservancy. 20 paces further is the start of the official route up the mountain. 40 paces in the opposite direction from the front gate land you smack bang in the midst of arguably the best restaurant in town, a famous pizza parlour and the home of the humongous hamburger. Ten paces more and you can get a tat, have your dog scrubbed, buy braai goodies, stock up on alcoholic beverages...
